How Aaron reads a dog

One dog. One connected story.

He reads a dog's behavior as one connected story, not a string of incidents. Three layers of it, in 3D Dog's own words.

  1. Feels

    What your dog feels

“It could be argued that every behavior challenge is an expression of anxiety, whether that anxiety be founded in lack of understanding, or due to some trauma or chronic stress in the dog's life.”

  2. Wired

    How your dog is wired

“Dogs are thinking, planning creatures whose behavior closely mirrors that of human children.”

  3. World

    Your dog's world

“The key to resolving behavior challenges is to understand the dog's worldview and to satisfy their emotional needs as a caregiver.”

Stories coming soon from Aaron

Aaron is adding stories and photos from 26 years of work with dogs and their families.

Illustrative, not real clients

A rescue who couldn't be left alone

Before. Daisy howled and scratched the door within minutes of the family leaving.

After. The family learned what set her off and practiced short, planned departures. Leaving the house stopped being a crisis.

A young dog who pulled every walk

Before. Walks with Bruno ended early, with sore shoulders and a frustrated family.

After. Everyone used the same few cues in the same way. Walks got longer, and calmer, a week at a time.

A family dog who growled at guests

Before. Visitors made Milo stiff and vocal, and the family had stopped inviting friends over.

After. A plan for the front door, set up before guests arrived, gave Milo somewhere to go and the family a routine to follow.

Illustrative stories that show the format. Real stories from 3D Dog families replace them once those families agree.

Why does my dog...?

Plain answers to common questions.

General answers, not a read on your dog. For that, start with the Quick Score.

Decompressing on a sniff walk
Why does my dog act fine at the vet but not at home?

A clean bill of health means the body checks out. Behavior is shaped by routine, the people in the house and what the dog has learned works for it. Many dogs hold it together in an unfamiliar place and show the real pattern at home, where it matters most. That pattern is what a behavior assessment looks at.

Why does my dog pull on the leash?

Pulling usually works: the dog moves forward and gets to the smell, the dog or the person it wanted. Over time the pull becomes the habit. Changing it means making a loose leash the thing that pays off, and every person who walks the dog doing it the same way.

Why does my dog bark at the door?

The door is where the outside world arrives. For many dogs a knock or a doorbell predicts excitement or a stranger, and barking is how they meet it. A predictable door routine, practiced before guests come, gives the dog a job other than barking.

Why does my dog destroy things when I leave?

Chewing and scratching at doors or windows when a dog is alone is often about the departure, not the object. Some dogs are bored, and some are distressed. Telling the two apart matters, because the plan for each is different.

Why does my dog jump on people?

Jumping gets attention, even when the attention is a push or a raised voice. Dogs repeat what gets a response. When greetings only happen with four paws on the floor, jumping has less reason to continue.

Why does my dog growl at some people?

A growl is communication. It usually means the dog is uncomfortable and wants space. Punishing a growl can remove the warning without changing the feeling. If a dog has bitten, or a child is at risk, call 205-563-8383 today.

Is this instead of my vet?

No. Your vet looks after your dog's health. 3D Dog works on behavior, alongside your vet. If something changes suddenly, such as pain, appetite or energy, see your vet first.

What does it cost to start?

The Quick Score is free. Aaron's full written read is $149 (a proposed price). Sessions are $159 each, with plans from $459.
